Kate Semple and John Candler have been working together in Somerset for a number of years.

Kate has worked in stone since leaving Art College, and has evolved a deep understanding of her materials through varied opportunities in art, in stone masonry and in teaching. She has exhibited in several galleries and her commissions include sculptures for the Queen Mary 2 for Cunard, and a large 3 metre high sculpture for Frome Hospital.

John started stone carving later in life after a career spent mainly working in South East Asia and China. He started carving at Shute Farm Studio, near Shepton Mallet, where Kate was his tutor. He has carved several private commissions and has exhibited in local galleries.

Stone and Glass Sculpture is a joint venture between Kate and John. They are exploring the way glass can bring light and life to the solidity of stone. They work, where possible using local materials from Dorset and Somerset quarries, and they carve with traditional tools. The glass is commissioned from Sonja Klingler who also works in Somerset.
